My family came to Scotland from Kurdistan when I was 12. As a teenager, I was one of Glasgow Girls campaigning against dawn raids, detention, and deportation. Our efforts led to the end of child detention in the UK.
I then campaigned for equal access to education for asylum seekers.
Now I'm proud to be a councillor for Glasgow (and the first former refugee politician elected in Scotland).
